QUESTIONS THAT WILL HELP YOU DIG DEEPER INTO THE MAIN MESSAGE FOR YOUR FAMILY DEVOTIONS OR SMALL GROUP:

Read Luke 16:8-13. Why do you think the Bible talks so much about money?

Pastor Michael talked about four benefits we receive when we GIVE to the Lord. Discuss each of these, what they mean and why they are important to a disciple’s (radical follower of Jesus’) life:

  • GIVING REWARDS US IN ETERNITY (from verse 9)
  • GIVING RELEASES US IN MINISTRY (from verse 10-11)
  • GIVING REMINDS US WHOSE IT ALL REALLY BELONGS TO (from verse 12)
  • GIVING REITERATES WHO’S BOSS (from verse 13)

When it was mentioned that the Average American gives 2-3% to anything, and the average Christian gives 3-4% to their local church or another work of the Lord, but in the Old Testament the average Hebrew gave upwards of 27%… why do you think that is? Is it convicting? Is it reassuring? Is it whack?

In 2 Corinthians chapters 8 & 9 we read a lot about giving. Three things seem to mark their giving: They gave Cheerfully, Sacrificially, and Regularly. When/If you give to the Lord’s work, do these three attributes describe you?

Family Discussion Questions for the children’s message: “Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream”

Choose a volunteer to read aloud Daniel 4:37.

Ask the following questions and Lead your family to discuss:

  1. Why didn’t God let Nebuchadnezzar continue in his pride? Does God always punish sin? Why? Lead kids to recognize that God is loving, just, and righteous. He always punishes sin. It would be against His nature to leave sin unpunished.(Option: Choose a volunteer to read Jer. 9:24.)
  2. What can I do when I sin? Invite kids to share their ideas. Emphasize that we must confess our sin to the Lord. In the Bible, 1 John 1:9 says “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Psalm 86:5 says God is eager to forgive.(Option: Choose a volunteer to read Ps. 32:5.)
  3. How can you practice humility in your life? How can humility help point others to Jesus? Encourage kids to share their thoughts. Prompt them to consider examples of showing humility that involve putting others first, being open to correction and instruction, and not thinking of themselves as better than other people.(Option: Choose a volunteer to read 1 Pet. 5:5.)
