Pastor Michael shares from Jesus’ sermon in Luke 6 on how when we get to a place of dependency we’re fortunate, because it’s the devout trust sustained through poverty, rather than poverty itself, which produces happiness. Most people in the ancient world lived on the edge of death – food, clothing, and shelter were all they needed. We understand they spent most of their time worrying about these things. So, for them, as well as for us, the first step in overcoming worry is to recognize that a devout trust in God is more important than our basic needs.
